Description:
More and more organizations are evaluating their internal training programs to ensure that they meet or exceed WorkSafe BC regulations. The driving force behind this review is Bill C-45 which allows for criminal charges to be laid when organizations are criminally negligent related to an incident. Current WorkSafe regulations indicate that employers must train their employees to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) standards. Failure to comply with this regulation could constitute negligence on the part of the organization, management and supervisors.
Equipment Operator Training
Advantage Fleet Services Inc. (AFSI) has created a complete equipment training program specifically developed for cities and municipalities. This program meets WorkSafe BC regulation requirements as each individual training module was developed from the OEM manual specific to that piece of equipment.
This program not only meets the needs of the organization relative to training, but the documented program can be adapted by the organization for all vehicle and equipment needs. Organizations can implement the entire program or have training delivered on an “individual type of equipment basis” relative to the needs and potential risk associated.
Development
AFSI has built the equipment training program in such a way that organizations can have the program delivered through a long-term arrangement externally by AFSI or internally – utilizing our “train the trainer” program. This gives organizations different options particularly related to budgeting and cost of this type of program. Organizations can also choose to simply have training delivered for a specific piece of equipment based on need and ongoing incident risk assessment or trends.
AFSI has currently produced 34 modules for municipalities and 7 modules for school districts. We can develop and include any organization’s equipment training needs. We require the organization to produce the OEM manual for the piece of equipment and an experienced operator, to evaluate the operational requirements. Once this has been completed, we develop the training package, which includes classroom and practical training. Practical exercises are included along with a comprehension quiz. We have also developed a qualification process which can be used by the organization to keep track of all employees training.
